The Missionary Task

Why does Knox exist? Why does any local church exist? The Apostle Paul gives a simple but profound answer in Ephesians 3: 8 – 11 where he says,

" Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. "

Our calling together as a congregation is to make known the wisdom of God revealed in and through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have been commissioned to make the name of Jesus famous in our community and around the world by announcing the good news of the gospel which is the wisdom of God (Mt. 28:18-20; I Cor. 1:18ff.). Just as importantly, we have also been empowered to go by the Holy Spirit whom Jesus has given us (Acts 1:8). Joyfully we remind ourselves that what Jesus gives, however, is more than an obligation to fulfill or a command to obey. He gives us the gift of a life that’s really worth living because, through giving ourselves away to the world in His mission, we find an abundant life beyond our wildest imagination.

And so, we have adopted the following mission statement that encapsulates the mission of Knox Presbyterian Church in the world:
As part of the worldwide church of which Jesus Christ is the Head, Knox Presbyterian Church has been commissioned by her risen Lord to participate in his global mission to reach all people and cultures with the good news of the gospel.
