TAKING YOUR SOUL TO WORK

Teaching Team led by James Paternoster
HARVEST ROOM

Are you good news at work: your life there, not just gospel words? Or do soul-sapping struggles keep you from taking, or even seeing, opportunities to be a Christ-like difference in your workplace? If the Spirit goes to work in us, how does becoming like Christ work at work. From Scripture, the experience of Knox people and examples we've learned from, we’ll explore and encourage one another in taking our soul to work. [Don’t let unavoidable travel keep you from joining us when you’re here: you can get Paul Stevens and Alvin Ung’s book, Taking Your Soul to Work, and we’ll share materials online so you can stick with us.]

LONGING TO KNOW

Pastor Bob Lynn
WORSHIP CENTER

The idea that God can be known or that faith is rooted in real knowledge is an idea our peers generally view with deep suspicion if not outright rejection. In fact, to insist that religious ideas are true or factual in any way is seen to be intolerant at best and oppressive at worst. But Christians have always insisted that the gospel is true - not just a private religious opinion that's true for me, but public truth for all. Should we, can we, as Christians confidently assert that we know God and that the gospel is true in a way that makes claims on all men and women? Join us as we explore the relationship between such ideas as truth, knowledge, faith, and belief in a modern world.

THE GRAND STORY OF THE BIBLE

Bill Painter
MEADOWVIEW ROOM

Many of us know various stories found in the Bible. But if your child or grandchild, classmate or co-worker, asked you how all of these stories fit together and what differences do they make – how would you answer them? All of us live life shaped by some story of the world and ourselves in it. If God’s Word is to shape our lives we must receive it and hear it as it really is – the big story of the world and everything in it. Understanding the Bible as one story will enable us to resist the idolatrous cultural story that bombards us every day. This short class will explore the grand, over-arching story of the Bible. We will see how all the individual stories we have heard so frequently fit together to reveal God’s creative and redemptive activity from creation to the New Jerusalem. We will also develop a better understanding of how we fit into this story and our role in this grand narrative of God’s plan from the beginning.

THE MEANING OF MARRIAGE

Pastor Tom & Ruthann Robinson
MUSIC ROOM

This class is for both married and singles who hope to gain a better understanding of marriage according to the Bible. The class teachings will be based on the Old and New Testaments as well as Timothy Keller's book, The Meaning of Marriage. Keller and his wife, Kathy, have many practical insights to offer those in the midst of challenging day to day marriages. They also speak to the complexities of life for those who are single, encouraging them to have a proper view of marriage. Please join with us as we explore fundamental truths of marriage.

MEMBERSHIP INQUIRY CLASS

Pastor Mike Frison
GARDEN ROOM

Does commitment to Christ require a commitment to His body as it is expressed here at Knox? Is membership in a church an important aspect of what it means to be Christ’s follower? The Membership Inquiry Class will provide an opportunity for reflection on these questions. An opportunity to become a member will be offered upon completion of this course.
