This past year has certainly been a season that tested our reserves of endurance and perseverance. Often it helps us to have renewed energy by hearing the stories of others who have endured steadfastly. In Hebrews 12:1 the author invites us to ponder believers who have gone before us saying, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us….”
This spring, C3W wants to invite you to sign up to read the book, 12 Faithful Women: Portraits of Steadfast Endurance, which includes the diverse stories of more recent women who have joined that great cloud of witnesses. Women like Corrie Ten Boom, Wen Wei Chieh, Elisabeth Elliott, and Phillis Wheatley, among others, remained faithful to Jesus as they endured prison, slavery, deep personal loss, oppression, and misunderstanding. They have much to teach us about being steadfast women of faith as we run the race that is set before us.
Each of the 12 brief chapters details the life struggle of one of the women and then invites us to ponder what we can learn and apply in our own lives. Sign up here to participate in our Spring Book Club. In early May, we will send participants a Discussion Group sign-up so that we can share our impressions and what we learned from these women of faith with small groups of other readers.
