Glowing holiday decorations, Christmas-themed crafts, delicious desserts and time to ponder the miracle of Christmas—that God Himself became flesh and dwelt among us so that we could be “Invited into God’s Holy Family.” Valerie Johnson helped us consider this amazing truth using the following Scriptures:

“Since the children have flesh and blood, he [Jesus] too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil–and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”  Hebrews 2:14-15 (NIV)

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’  So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”  Galatians 4:4-7 (NIV)

“Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.”  Hebrews 2:11 (NIV)

“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.”  Galatians 5: 22-23 (The Message)

Valerie invited us to consider the following questions to help us prepare for her talk and questions to reflect on afterwards. We hope these will help you delight in God’s great mercy to you as He enters our world to bring you into His as a cherished sister, a child of the King! If you’d like to explore these concepts about being adopted into God’s holy family, feel free to contact C3W and someone will follow up and start that conversation.
